Ninety-three percent mountain. The M41 — the Pamir Highway — runs along the Afghan border at altitude for days, and it is the single most extraordinary road journey in the region.

This is a demanding trip. Accommodation is homestays, altitude is real, and the reward is a valley culture that has been quietly its own thing for a very long time.

Most nationalities need an e-visa, applied for online. Travel into the Pamirs (GBAO region) requires an additional permit, which we arrange as part of any Pamir itinerary.

July to September. The high passes are snowbound outside this window, and the Pamir Highway is not a road to gamble on.
