ab $658pro Person
This 14 days tour lets you explore the artworks of skilful craftsmen from all regions of Uzbekistan. From ancient times the country was one of the most important trading posts and craftsmen's centres on the Great Silk Road, and the techniques were improved over centuries and passed down inside families.
You cross the Kamchik pass into the Fergana valley, visit the Yodgorlik silk factory in Margilan where every stage is still done by hand, and work with the ceramicists of Rishtan, who mix their own glazes.
Who it suits: makers, collectors, and anyone who would rather watch something being made than photographed.
Arrival, transfer, and a first walk through the old town and Chorsu bazaar with a local guide.
Over the Kamchik pass (2,268m) into the Fergana valley, and the palace of Khudoyar Khan in Kokand, built in 1871 for the last ruler of the khanate.
Yes — the workshops are hands-on. You will throw a bowl in Rishtan and leave with it fired, if the kiln timing allows.
Not for this route: it covers the Fergana valley, Khorezm, Bukhara and Samarkand, and the crafts differ in every one.

The Yodgorlik silk factory in Margilan, where you follow a thread from cocoon to finished ikat, then the road back to Tashkent and the flight to Khiva.
